Looking for a unique and exciting reading group? Then join one of ours! Each club requires “no long term commitment” and meets monthly at the bookshop, 1776 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach. The only requirement is that each participant must purchase the book club selections from Read Books.

Classic titles by and about women have stood the test of time. They provide a context for history and culture, strengthen our personal ethics and lead us to reflect on our own personal experiences. We will read classic and contemporary titles that encourage us to be bold and learn from the women who came before us and those we stand beside today.

Inspired by RB Community members and our friends at the podcast, Strong Sense of Place , we added a new monthly book club! It's dedicated to a fun and immersive global reading experience!
On the 3rd Thursday of each month we will meet to discuss a fiction title that takes us somewhere new!
Family Book CLub
If your family loves to read together or wants to start, then the Family Book club is for you! Each month we'll choose a title the whole family will love to read and talk about together, sharing how to read aloud, read together and talk about books as a family of readers. This club is best for families with children ages 8 and up.
This club meets during the evening of the 4th Thursday of each month at the bookshop.
Hosted by Read Books and Facilitated by one of our readerly community families. Meet the Raftery Family: The Raftery Family is a family of voracious readers! Meghan, an educator, is a fast and eclectic reader of just about anything and loves to pair fiction titles with non-fiction deep dives. Kevin, a firefighter, is a non-fiction only reader with a fondness for food, music, weather and strange biographies. Jude, an 11 year old scientist, likes fantasy series, maps and timelines. Pete, a 9 year old artist, likes architecture, graphic novels, and humor. We are currently reading Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky and the YA version of the Sum of Us as a family.
Cookbook Book CLub
Do you enjoy exploring and collecting cookbooks? Then this club is for you! The Cookbook Book Club is hosted monthly by Read Books Independent Bookshop in Virginia Beach, VA and facilitated by Father and Son duo Scott and Cormac. Each month they will select a new (positively reviewed) cookbook to try. To participate members will purchase the cookbook from Read Books (Online Bookshop or in store), spend the month reviewing and trying out some recipes. The evening of the meeting bring a completed dish from the cookbook to share with the group. Members will then share, discuss and enjoy!
Silent Book Club-VB Chapter
Calling all readers in and around Virginia Beach, VA who want a book club experience without the obligation to all read the same book: Silent Book Club is back in Read Books' brand new Reading Room! Share what you're currently reading or other aspects of your bookish life with other readers and then sit back to read silently together--bookseller Heather will keep an eye on the time so you can relax into your book. This event is perfect for those who want to meet friends and read together, and it will be offered the 2nd Thursday of the month from 6:30-8:00pm.
