The Prologue

Welcome to Read Books online. We (a retired librarian educator and her family) are locating our little bookstore just blocks from the oceanfront in our town of Virginia Beach, VA. If you love a good story, here’s where ours begins.

We love to read books. We also love to gather with other readers to celebrate the magic of stories and the art of the printed page. So, we are designing a store that reflects and values all things reading. It’s aiming to be small, independent, cozy, funky and we hope, welcoming. The collection will be filled with amazing titles recommended by you, our readers.

The bookstore dream percolated for years while we worked (teacher, librarian, salesman), grew (children Kat and Mac), developed and supported (Reach Foundation, Inc), lived (little farmhouse in Pungo), wrote (lifestyle blog) and read (everything we could get our hands on).

Chapter 1

Then one day the stars aligned and we took the plunge. Because we have amazing friends and family who support all our crazy dreams, we were able to find an awesome home for our store in a vibrant neighborhood.

Our community of readers matches the community in which we chose to call home. Our neighbors in The Vibe are creators and partners. You’ll find artisan brewers, bakers, hosts, farmers, chefs, ice cream makers, designers and coffee makers. So, after a great meal, a delicious dessert or the best beverage around, stop in and browse our selection of books. Or, plan to attend one of our maker, author, reader or writer events. Either way, we can’t wait to meet you soon!

Chapter 2

A little more space for our community to flourish was always the dream. So when we learned about an opportunity on the edge of the beautiful rural area of Virginia Beach, very close to where call home, it was time to spread our wings again! We love being able to serve the whole area from two locations ramping, up our convenience factor for locals and visitors alike! The new location affords us new chances to work with local businesses, try new event ideas and hopefully develop two truly unique places where folks feel special, safe and their bookish needs well cared for! Thank you for allowing us to serve you and by supporting a truly local and independent bookshop, offering our community the opportunity to thrive! Let this be the never-ending story!
